The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will officially participate as a guest in the high-profile rally scheduled for June 27 in Belgrade, party leader Ivica Dačić announced.

The declaration cements the ruling coalition’s unified stance ahead of the event, which state leadership has framed as a crucial mobilization for national sovereignty.

A Unified Coalition Front

In a statement published on his official Instagram account, Dačić—who currently serves as the Minister of Internal Affairs (MUP)—affirmed that the SPS has historically operated as a state-building and politically responsible entity. He explicitly called on all party structures, loyal members, and voters to answer the public invitation extended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

“Bearing in mind that the Socialist Party of Serbia has always been a state-building and politically responsible party, we accept the invitation extended by the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, who called upon all parties within the ruling coalition to participate as guests in the June 27 rally in Belgrade.

In that regard, we invite all our members, sympathizers, and voters to respond to this call, participate in the Belgrade rally, and thereby contribute to the defense of our national and state interests.”

Developing Political Tensions in Belgrade

The mass mobilization occurs alongside a series of highly charged security and political controversies dominating the domestic landscape.

  • The “Sonic Cannon” Controversy: The rally comes amid fierce public arguments regarding claims made by former President Boris Tadić concerning the alleged deployment of a “sonic cannon” (zvučni top). President Aleksandar Vučić aggressively dismissed the allegations, stating that everyone within the state’s security apparatus recognizes the claim as an outright fabrication, adding, “I can’t wait to go to prison over a sonic cannon, that would be the most ridiculous thing in the world.” Concurrently, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an official response labeling the claims entirely unfounded and misleading to the general public.
  • Regional Accusations: The domestic political climate is further complicated by escalating regional rhetoric. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama recently accused members of Kosovo’s ruling party, Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination), of actively meddling in and inciting localized protests in Tirana, calling out political caravans originating from Pristina and Tetovo.

The June 27 gathering is projected to draw massive crowds from across the country, serving as a significant demonstration of strength for the Progressive-Socialist coalition during a period of heightened political friction.
