U.S. President Donald Trump responds to India’s missile strikes on Pakistan-administered Kashmir, calling the escalation “regrettable” and expressing hope for a swift end.
President Donald Trump has reacted to the ongoing military escalation between India and Pakistan, following India’s missile strikes on several targets in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
During a press briefing at the White House, Trump expressed concern and regret over the renewed violence, stating:
“It’s regrettable. We just heard about this… People knew something was coming, given the history. Both sides have fought for many decades, even centuries.”
His comments come in the wake of India’s confirmed airstrikes on nine locations, in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam last month that killed 25 Indian nationals and a citizen of Nepal.
Casualties and Escalation
According to Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, at least three people have been killed, including a child, and 12 others injured as a result of India’s air raids.
- Two civilians were killed in Kotli
- One child was killed in Ahmedpur East in southern Pakistan
Pakistan has vowed a firm military response, while cross-border artillery fire has already been reported.
Background and Rising Tensions
India’s Ministry of Defense stated the military operation is a direct retaliation for the Pahalgam attack. India claims the militants responsible had ties to groups operating from Pakistani territory, a claim Islamabad routinely denies.
The situation remains volatile, with fears of a broader conflict looming in a region with a long and fragile history of warfare between two nuclear-armed nations.
