Bloomberg reports that Keith Kellogg, the special envoy appointed by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump for Ukraine and Russia, is planning to visit Kyiv next month to engage in talks aimed at ending the nearly three-year conflict between Ukraine and Russia. According to Bloomberg, Kellogg is also open to visiting Moscow if invited, signaling a potential shift in U.S. diplomatic efforts.
Kellogg, a retired general who served in national security roles during Trump’s first administration, is expected to travel to several European capitals, including London, Paris, and Rome, to discuss plans that are still being finalized. These moves come as the incoming U.S. administration looks to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible.
Earlier reports from Reuters suggested that Kellogg’s visit to Kyiv and other European capitals would take place in early January. However, the report noted that the retired general had no plans to visit Moscow at that time. Bloomberg points out that Kellogg’s willingness to travel to Moscow would be an unusual move, considering the numerous sanctions imposed on Russia since February 2022.
Trump has repeatedly pledged to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, claiming he could reach a negotiated settlement “within a day.” However, Russian officials have expressed doubts, citing the complexity of the issue and suggesting that such a resolution is unlikely to be as simple as Trump proposes.
