Donald Trump said that he has not received any information from Iran regarding reports that Tehran has suspended peace talks, commenting on the situation during a brief phone call with NBC News.

According to him, such a statement is “appropriate to say,” adding that Iranians are “better negotiators than fighters.” However, Trump stressed that this does not imply any military escalation by the United States.

“That does not mean we are going to go and start dropping bombs everywhere there,” he said, adding that in his view there has been too much discussion about the situation and that “silence would be much better.”

His remarks come at a time when the Iranian news agency Tasnim News Agency previously reported that Iran’s negotiators would halt talks and exchanges of messages through intermediaries.

The agency also claimed that Iran has taken steps toward a full blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, while also mentioning the possibility that the Bab al-Mandab Strait could be targeted in further developments.
