Kosovo Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu has commented on the results of Serbia’s parliamentary elections, in which the Student List defeated Aleksandar Vučić, while the Albanian Coalition secured two seats in Serbia’s parliament.
Speaking to Indeksonline, Haxhiu said she considered the unification of Albanian political entities into a joint coalition significant, stressing that Albanian representatives would continue to receive Kosovo’s support.
She said the deactivation of residential addresses and the obstacles faced by Albanians in the Presheva Valley had contributed to their failure to secure a third parliamentary seat.
“We welcome the fact that the two MPs will be in parliament to represent the interests of Albanian citizens living there with dignity,” Haxhiu said, adding that Kosovo would continue providing financial support to the Preševo Valley.
Commenting on political changes in Serbia, Haxhiu said the fall of authoritarian regimes was a development that brought satisfaction to Kosovo. However, she expressed reservations about whether a change of government would immediately lead to a change in Serbia’s approach towards Kosovo.
“The Republic of Kosovo stands strong and steadfast and will continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she stressed.
Haxhiu also described her official visit to North Macedonia as successful. During the visit, she met with Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and mayors of municipalities with Albanian majorities.
She stressed that Kosovo and North Macedonia enjoy excellent relations, with joint projects already completed and others underway, including road infrastructure, tunnels and border crossing points. Haxhiu said cooperation would continue and that new agreements could be reached in the future.
