Two civilians killed in Ukraine by Russian attacks at night
Ukrainian officials have said that two civilians were killed in the middle of the night as a result of Russian drone and missile attacks.
Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, said that Iskander missiles targeted an infrastructure facility in the northeastern town of Barvinkove, killing two people and injuring three others.
According to him, more than 50 residential houses and commercial buildings were damaged by the attacks.
The Ukrainian Air Force has said that Russian forces fired four Iskander ballistic missiles overnight and that air defenses failed to shoot them down.
The air defense has shot down 13 of the 17 drones launched in the five regions in the east, north and center of the state.
National energy operator Ukrenergo said the drones targeted power distribution centers in the central Poltava region.
As a result, the residents of the area were left without electricity.
Russian forces have stepped up drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure since March, leaving millions of people stranded.
The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.
