The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is scheduled to meet today at the White House with more than a dozen executives from major oil companies, as part of his efforts to persuade them to invest in rebuilding Venezuela’s oil industry infrastructure.
Senior members of the U.S. cabinet — including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum — will join the president at the meeting, according to a White House official, CNN reports.
“Today’s meeting will be almost exclusively a discussion about Venezuelan oil and our long-term relationship with Venezuela — its security and its people. A very significant factor in this engagement will be lowering oil prices for the American people,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Companies expected to send representatives to the meeting include Chevron, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, Valero, Marathon, and Shell, among others.
The primary objective of the meeting is to discuss investment opportunities in rebuilding Venezuela’s oil sector infrastructure, which has been severely damaged after years of mismanagement, lack of investment, and previous policies, reports Telegrafi.
Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was captured on January 3, 2026, during a reinforced U.S. military operation in Venezuela.
As part of this intervention, Maduro and his wife were arrested and subsequently transferred to New York, where they are expected to face charges related to drug trafficking and so-called “narco-terrorism.”
