Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko strongly reacted to reports of a phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump regarding peace talks on the Russia-Ukraine war. He emphasized that Ukraine will not become a “sacrificial lamb” in negotiations between global powers.
“It wasn’t U.S. Marines who faced Russia three years ago—it was Ukrainians. No one will decide for us. We understand that we cannot rely entirely on negotiations, but we also refuse to be sacrificed in someone else’s deals,” Goncharenko stated.
He also criticized Putin’s unwillingness to end the war, arguing that the Russian leader underestimates Ukraine’s resistance.
Regarding U.S. foreign policy, Goncharenko voiced concern that the new administration appears less interested in Europe, which could pose a challenge for Ukraine and NATO allies.
On the occupied territories, he declared that they will never truly belong to Russia, predicting the eventual downfall of the Russian empire.
“Occupied territories will remain under Russian control for now, but the people will never accept being Russian. Sooner or later, the Russian empire will collapse, just as it did 100 and 30 years ago.”
Goncharenko also stressed the need for a united European military and Ukraine’s NATO membership, arguing that European security depends on Ukraine’s strength.
