The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has stated that former military commander Ratko Mladić is in very serious health condition and should be allowed to spend his final days outside his cell in The Hague.

He said that Mladić’s condition has significantly worsened and that humanitarian treatment should be taken into consideration, regardless of the court decision.

“I was informed by Justice Minister Nenad Vujić that his condition is very serious. He has been unable to sit, he was taken to the hospital in a lying position and was only able to respond briefly. I do not understand why someone is not allowed to spend their final days outside a prison cell. But am I surprised? No,” Vučić said in front of journalists in Belgrade.

Ratko Mladić has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hague Tribunal for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
