Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić has continued his campaign against Kosovo, using both Facebook and the Serbian RTS television to spread his claims. In his latest comments, Vučić accused Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti of pushing NATO into a potential war with Serbia. He also used the situation to pressure the United States, making unfounded claims that Kosovo Police had crossed the border into central Serbia.
Vučić’s allegations were made through a combination of social media posts and statements on the state-controlled RTS. According to Vučić, Kurti allegedly ordered Kosovo Police to enter Serbian territory in an attempt to provoke a NATO intervention.
In his message, Vučić stated, “We are asking the Americans to inform us if we are correct when we say that Kurti personally ordered the entry of his armed forces into central Serbia near the village of Čirković.” These remarks followed earlier statements from the Serbian Ministry of Defense, which claimed that heavily armed Kosovo police crossed the border near the village of Čirković close to Leposavić.
When asked whether he expected a response from KFOR regarding this incident, Vučić responded by saying, “I do not expect any reaction except from the Americans.”
Vučić further claimed that the Americans knew Kurti’s actions were intentional and said he hoped that such provocations would escalate to the point where NATO could justify involvement in a conflict with Serbia.
As tensions mounted, Vučić warned that Serbian forces would respond. He stated, “The next time, Serbian forces will react fully according to the rules of service.”
In response, Kosovo Police issued a denial, refuting the claims made by the Serbian government. Kosovo’s police force clarified that there was no truth to the reports circulating in Serbian media, which alleged that Kosovo officers had illegally crossed into Serbia.
The Kosovo Police said in a statement: “The Kosovo Police (KP), in order to provide accurate information to the public and citizens, responds to several publications mainly in Serbian media, referencing a report from the Serbian Ministry of Defense. These reports claim that a group of heavily armed Kosovo Police officers crossed the border with Serbia without authorization.”
The statement went on to explain that the allegations were false, asserting: “These publications are disinformation intended to create insecurity among citizens of that region and tarnish the reputation of the Kosovo Police.”
The Kosovo Police reiterated that as a trusted and transparent institution, they would continue to provide accurate official information to the media and the public whenever necessary.
