Aleksandar Vučić, Serbia’s increasingly autocratic president, openly threatens the students who have been protesting for months against injustice and state violence. Instead of listening to the voice of the youth, he labels the blockades as “violence” and warns that “at the right moment” there will be a reaction.
Rather than choosing dialogue and reflection, Vučić portrays the student protests as the “destruction of the country,” speaking ominously about the end of the regime’s patience.
This is yet another clear display of fear, weakness, and repression from a government that no longer knows how to deal with its own people except through threats and intimidation.
