Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Russia violated a temporary ceasefire that had lasted nearly three days, launching a wave of fresh attacks across Ukraine overnight, according to reports from DW.
In a statement addressing the escalation, Zelenskyy revealed that Russian forces deployed over 200 strike drones in a single night. The attacks targeted multiple regions, including Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and the capital city, Kyiv.
Targeted Infrastructure and Civilian Impact
According to Ukrainian authorities, the strikes caused widespread damage to civilian and critical infrastructure. Reports indicate hits on:
- Residential buildings and a kindergarten.
- Energy facilities and railway networks.
President Zelenskyy released footage documenting the destruction, highlighting the damage to educational facilities. Ukrainian officials have confirmed that at least one civilian was killed during the raids.
Conflicting Reports from Moscow
While Kyiv deals with the aftermath of the drone swarm, the Russian Ministry of Defense provided a different narrative, claiming their air defenses intercepted and shot down 27 Ukrainian drones during the same period.
The collapse of this brief three-day pause in hostilities marks a sharp return to intense aerial warfare, further complicating efforts for a sustained de-escalation in the region.
