Nineteen-year-old Albanian Murat Avdyli from Drenas spoke in Brussels, where he raised a direct question regarding Serbia and the glorification of war criminals.
Avdyli, who is 19 years old and a municipal assembly member in Bad Homburg, Germany, focused on the case of Ratko Mladić, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Bosnia.
“How is it possible for Serbia to be tolerated when Ratko Mladić, sentenced to life imprisonment for the genocide in Srebrenica, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Bosnia, was, after his death, portrayed by part of Serbian society as a ‘defender of the Serbian people’?” Avdyli asked before the European Parliament.
Avdyli is originally from Dobroshec in Drenas and, at just 19 years old, was elected as a member of the Bad Homburg Municipal Assembly as a candidate for the CDU. He received 8,722 votes in the March 2026 local elections and is the youngest member of the assembly. /Klan Kosova
