The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has extended congratulations to citizens on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Kosovo’s Liberation Day.
In a Facebook post, Abdixhiku stated that on 12 June 1999, the centuries-long suffering of Albanians under the Serbian regime came to an end once and for all.
“27 years ago, Kosovo was definitively liberated from Serbian occupation and genocidal rule. On 12 June 1999, the centuries-long Albanian suffering under a barbaric Serbian regime that was killing and burning across every corner of Kosovo came to an end once and for all. The rays of freedom were breaking through the dark skies of Kosovo, pushing away the black clouds of death, the burning of homes, and the suffering of our people. These rays of freedom came as a result of unwavering peaceful resistance led by the historic President Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, and later also the armed struggle of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), which resulted in NATO’s military intervention against Serbian targets,” he wrote.
Abdixhiku emphasized that freedom came as a result of peaceful resistance led by Ibrahim Rugova, the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, and NATO’s military intervention.
“The infamous Serbian regime had killed and massacred thousands of unarmed civilians, deported over one million Albanians from their homes, and burned and destroyed everything Albanian. This fascist regime came to an end after 78 days of NATO’s bombing campaign. On this anniversary of Liberation Day, we honor and remember the sublime sacrifice of generations who contributed to our freedom and independence. We remain forever grateful to our international partners and friends—the USA, the EU, NATO, and all other democratic European states that supported and helped achieve our freedom. Happy Liberation Day, Kosovo!” Abdixhiku wrote.
