The newly formed Kosovo government held its first official meeting just one day after the convening of the Assembly and the formation of the executive cabinet. Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that discussions with political parties regarding the presidency will begin tomorrow.
Speaking at the meeting, Kurti emphasized the government’s commitment to swift action and continuity: “The lessons we have learned during the previous mandate, together with your expertise and knowledge, give me confidence that this cabinet has all the prerequisites to be the best. We have convened on the very first day to approve international agreements that had been pending,” he said.
Budget Approval and Local Support
Kurti also confirmed that today the Assembly will re-proceed with the Budget Bill, which totals 4 billion euros, including 867 million euros earmarked for municipalities. The budget also provides for the 13th monthly salary for public employees, payable as soon as the law comes into effect, as well as increased allowances for work experience.
“This budget ensures both national priorities and local development needs are met while maintaining commitments to public sector employees,” Kurti added.
Presidency Talks on the Horizon
Looking ahead, Kurti stated that from tomorrow, his office will begin inter-party discussions on the issue of the president, signaling a proactive approach to resolving what has been a politically sensitive matter since the new Assembly’s inauguration.
Analysts note that Kurti’s rapid action reflects a desire to demonstrate stability and competence, both domestically and internationally, especially amid ongoing regional challenges and Kosovo’s aspirations for stronger EU integration.
