The Assembly of Kosovo has postponed the parliamentary session on the 2026 state budget until Monday at 10:00 AM, following consultations with parliamentary group leaders. The announcement was made by Speaker Albulena Haxhiu.
Opposition Requests More Time to Review Budget
The postponement comes after opposition parties raised objections during the first reading of the budget proposal, requesting additional time to review the 700-page document. Opposition lawmakers stated that they need sufficient time to analyze the proposal and prepare potential amendments.
Following discussions with parliamentary group leaders, Haxhiu decided to delay the session to allow further review and political consultations.
Key Details of the 2026 Budget
The proposed 2026 budget is valued at €4 billion and includes several notable provisions. According to Finance Minister Hekuran Murati, one of the key measures is the introduction of a 13th salary for public sector employees. This additional payment will apply to workers who have completed more than 12 months of employment.
Next Steps for Approval
For the budget to become law in Kosova, it must pass both the first and second parliamentary readings. The upcoming session on Monday is expected to be a crucial step in determining whether the budget advances toward final approval.
