Deputies in the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia have submitted a draft resolution calling for the respect of fair trial standards in the international proceedings against former leaders of Kosovo’s institutions, the Bashkimi Demokratik për Integrim (BDI) announced.

Focus on Legal Standards and Human Rights

The resolution emphasizes constitutional principles and international justice standards, reaffirming commitment to the rule of law, judicial independence, and the full protection of fundamental human rights as outlined in:

  • The European Convention on Human Rights
  • The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
  • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Ensuring Fair Trials at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers

Through this parliamentary initiative, BDI stresses that judicial processes at the Dhomat e Specializuara të Kosovës must fully adhere to the highest international standards, guaranteeing:

  • The presumption of innocence
  • Effective legal defense
  • Trials within a reasonable timeframe for all defendants

Recognition of Contributions and Call for Unity

The resolution also acknowledges the contributions of Kosovo’s former institutional leaders and KLA members in regional peace, stability, and Euro-Atlantic integration. It stresses that international justice must remain impartial, professional, and free from political influence.

BDI urges all deputies, regardless of political affiliation, to support the resolution in order to strengthen universal principles of justice and ensure consistent respect for international standards in fair and unbiased trials.
