NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska, in an interview with the news agency Beta, stated that NATO is waiting for those responsible for the Banjska attack to be brought to justice. She emphasized that ensuring accountability is essential to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Shekerinska said NATO has received assurances from Belgrade that those responsible will be held accountable.
“We received guarantees, or a very clear commitment, from the authorities in Belgrade that responsibility will be determined, and this will remain our position going forward,” Shekerinska stated.
Earlier this week in Brussels, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said he “still expects accountability” for the events in Kosovo, adding that the Serbian president had promised to fulfill this commitment and that he expects this to happen soon.
Commenting on Rutte’s statement, Shekerinska said it shows that NATO expects concrete results from the Serbian authorities.
When asked whether this means that no results have been achieved so far, Shekerinska responded that this is precisely why Rutte “was once again calling for accountability.”
