The trial of former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) has entered its decisive phase at the Specialized Chambers in The Hague.

On Wednesday, the court is expected to hear closing statements from the victims’ representatives, replies from the defense, and the final declarations from the four former KLA leaders.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, has arrived at the Special Court, expressing confidence that the former KLA leaders will be acquitted.

“The final verdict will be in line with history and the truth of the KLA’s struggle,” Konjufca told the media.

Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, which, according to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, relate to the 1998–1999 Kosovo conflict. The indictment alleges that the accused were part of a “joint criminal enterprise”, charges they have consistently denied, pleading not guilty.
