Activists Lazar Dinić and Ivan Bijelić, who operate the portal “Revolt”, have received death threats after publishing the identities of individuals allegedly involved in an attack on students in front of the Serbian National Theatre (SNP), reports 021.rs.
The threats, which include insults and life-endangering messages, constitute a criminal offense of endangering public safety. The activists’ lawyer, Veljko Milić, has filed a criminal complaint against unknown perpetrators (N.N. persons).
“Dinić and Bijelić were insulted, called ‘Ustaše,’ and threatened with death after exposing the attackers on social media,” the report states.
The attack occurred on Monday evening, when a group of men assaulted students gathered at Pozorišni Trg, positioned between two police cordons separating citizens from supporters of the government.
The protest was organized following announcements that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić would speak at a celebration marking 200 years of Matica Srpska. Although the president’s appearance was later canceled, students and citizens still gathered near the theatre.
Following the incident, the assailants were identified online, with photos, biographies, and criminal records posted on multiple social media profiles. Wanted notices bearing the names and faces of those suspected in the attack were also posted on the doors of the Police Department in Novi Sad.
