A suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2010 killing of Bosniak activist Shefko Salković in Leposaviq, according to Bosniak MP Emilia Rexhepi.

Rexhepi, a member of the New Democratic Party, announced that after 16 years, authorities have detained a suspect identified as Jugoslav Petrović, who is believed to be involved in the murder of Salković and the wounding of his colleague at the time of the attack.

In a public statement, Rexhepi said the arrest sends an important signal that the institutions of Kosovo continue to pursue justice despite political and security challenges. She emphasized that the case demonstrates the state’s determination not to forget victims of criminal structures and to shed light on even the most difficult cases.

Sixteen years after the crime, a suspect has been arrested for the murder of Shefko Salković and the wounding of his colleague. This is a positive and significant step,” Rexhepi wrote, stressing that Kosovo’s institutions remain committed to accountability.

She also highlighted the importance of the judicial process, noting that justice can be slow but must ultimately prevail through the rule of law and the work of competent courts in Kosovo. Rexhepi added that she expects those responsible for the killing of the Bosniak activist to be prosecuted and punished.

The arrest marks a new development in a case that has remained unresolved for more than a decade and has drawn attention from representatives of the Bosniak community and political leaders in Kosovo.
