With just ten days remaining before the constitutional deadline, Kosovo’s political parties have yet to begin discussions on a presidential candidate. Prime Minister Albin Kurti has not started consultations despite promising to do so after the 2026 budget was approved.

President Vjosa Osmani has expressed interest in a second term, but it is unclear if she has secured enough votes. Vetëvendosje cannot elect a president without opposition support, as the first two voting rounds require a quorum of 80 MPs.

Opposition leaders emphasize the need for coordination: AAK warns that failure to unite could fragment the process, while PDK MPs favor a consensual candidate. LDK says formal positions will be given once all nominations are submitted.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu confirmed the election must conclude by March 4, but cannot proceed until candidates submit the required 30 supporting signatures each. Failure to elect a president by this deadline would trigger early elections.
