Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed support for plans reportedly backed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to remove Prince Andrew from the British royal line of succession.

Albanese conveyed his position in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Prince Andrew, brother of Charles III, remains eighth in line to the throne, despite having previously stepped back from royal duties and losing his honorary military titles and patronages amid public pressure over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to BBC reports.

The UK government is currently reviewing the possibility of introducing legislation that would formally remove him from the line of succession.

This development follows Andrew’s recent arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office — allegations he continues to strongly deny.
