Serbian authorities have arrested two suspects in Kraljevo accused of planning an attack on the life of President Aleksandar Vučić, his wife, and children, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced. The suspects, identified as D.R. (b. 1975) and M.R. (b. 1983), allegedly conspired from December 2025 to February 2026 to violently overthrow Serbia’s constitutional order and target top state officials.
The operation was carried out by the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) under the leadership of former JZO commander Marko Kričak, in coordination with the Security-Information Agency (BIA). The suspects reportedly planned to acquire weapons and attack both the President and members of the Serbian police, intending to inflict serious harm.
The MUP released footage of the arrests. The suspects are expected to be detained for up to 48 hours before being presented to the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo with formal criminal charges.
While the news of the alleged assassination plot was significant, it received limited attention in domestic media, ranking 11th on RTS, third on Euronews Serbia, and was not featured prominently on some major portals.

Historical Context of Threats Against President Vučić
This is not the first reported threat against Vučić. In October 2016, authorities discovered a car loaded with weapons near his family’s residence in Jajinci. Vučić expressed concern at the time, warning about the potential danger to children playing nearby.
In November 2019, during a visit to Radio Television Serbia, protesters from the “One of Five Million” movement gathered outside, allegedly plotting an attack, although details remain unclear.
Previously, in October 2021, former Prime Minister Ana Brnabić and then-Minister of Interior Aleksandar Vulin confirmed threats against Vučić during public events, noting parallel structures within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and targeted media campaigns aimed at dehumanizing the President and his family.
Vučić has repeatedly referred to ongoing assassination attempts, including a 2024 statement alleging that tycoon and criminal Dragan Šolak, through intermediaries, planned to kill him as part of a revolutionary plot.
