The European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has proposed starting negotiations with the six Western Balkan countries to include them in the EU’s “roam like at home” program.
Kos said that roaming costs pose a problem for citizens in the Western Balkans.
“Roaming charges are a problem across the Western Balkans—for cross-border workers and families calling loved ones abroad. Unexpected bills while traveling are something we no longer accept in the EU. Today, we proposed starting negotiations to extend this to the Western Balkans,” she wrote in a post on X.
The proposal aims to include the Western Balkan countries in the EU program “Roam Like at Home”, which eliminates extra fees. This allows mobile users to use their phones in other member states at the same prices as in their home country.
