Serbia’s Interior Minister, Ivica Dačić, has been hospitalized in serious condition, with doctors fighting to stabilize his health at the University Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade.
According to medical officials, Dačić is currently in the intensive care unit and on mechanical ventilation after developing severe bilateral pneumonia. Pulmonologist Spasoje Popević stated that the minister is receiving all necessary treatments and remains under close monitoring.
Doctors say his condition is slightly improved compared to when he was admitted, but emphasized that the next 72 hours will be critical for his survival.
Meanwhile, Novica Tončev, vice president of the main board of the Socialist Party of Serbia, said Dačić had been feeling very unwell earlier in the day. As a result, he did not attend a government session or a commemoration for diplomat Vladislav Jovanović.
Reports also note that Dačić has been living with diabetes for some time, which may complicate his condition as doctors continue intensive treatment.
Authorities have not yet provided further updates on his prognosis.
