Montenegrin investigative journalist Jelena Jovanović has revealed how she obtained information from encrypted Sky ECC messages that were cited in a report about an celebration of a “first earned billion euros” involving Andrej Vučić and controversial businessman Zvonko Veselinović.
Jovanović, a reporter for the media outlet Vijesti, spoke about the issue during a recent television appearance, explaining the origin of the information published in her earlier investigative article. The report cited messages allegedly exchanged on the once-encrypted Sky ECC platform, which has been widely used in criminal investigations across Europe after authorities gained access to the network’s communications.
According to Jovanović, the messages were exchanged between fugitive police officer Ljubo Milović and Miloš Božović, whom investigators reportedly link to organized crime structures in the region. In the conversations, they allegedly discussed the influence of Andrej Vučić and Veselinović and mentioned claims that the two had recently celebrated earning their “first billion euros.”
The journalist said she reviewed extensive Sky ECC transcripts, which included discussions about security services, criminal groups operating in Serbia and Montenegro, and individuals allegedly monitoring certain political and business figures. She added that the context of the messages suggested that surveillance activities might have involved institutional actors rather than individuals acting independently, although these claims remain unverified.
The publication of the article has led to legal proceedings against Jovanović, following a lawsuit filed by Andrej Vučić, the brother of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The case centers on the reporting that quoted the Sky ECC communications and the allegations referenced within them.
The original reporting by Vijesti in 2024 stated that the conversations between Milović and Božović included comments claiming that Vučić and Veselinović “held all the strings” and had celebrated a major financial milestone. However, no official confirmation of such claims has been publicly presented, and the matter is now being addressed through the courts.
The situation highlights the ongoing legal and political sensitivity surrounding Sky ECC evidence, which has surfaced in numerous investigations across the Balkans and Europe in recent years.
