The Director of Kosovo Customs, Agron Llugaliu, has commented on the discovery of nearly €1 million in undeclared cash inside a vehicle at the Merdare Border Crossing, describing it as one of the most significant blows against illegal financial movements.
In a statement shared on LinkedIn, Llugaliu said the successful detection was a direct result of the dedication of customs staff, as well as strategic investments in X-ray scanners, which were donated by the United States of America. He also highlighted the effective cooperation within the Integrated Border Management framework between Kosovo Customs and the Border Police.
According to Llugaliu, around €1 million in undeclared money was discovered at the Merdare border crossing, marking a major success in combating illicit financial flows.
By order of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, three foreign nationals have been arrested to allow further investigations into the case.
He praised the commitment and professionalism of customs officials, stressing that their work is essential to achieving the country’s goal of secure and well-controlled borders.
