A court in Moscow on Thursday found Google guilty of violating Russian legislation and imposed a fine of more than €176 million.

“The administrative fine totaling 16,017,368,387 rubles has been imposed on Google LLC,” the court said in a statement, according to Interfax.

Google was found guilty of evading the enforcement of a prior administrative penalty. Russian courts have repeatedly sanctioned the company for failing to remove prohibited content from its services, refusing to localize the personal data of Russian users, and for other alleged violations.

Since the end of 2021, the company has twice been issued so-called turnover fines in Russia, totaling more than 29 billion rubles. Part of that amount has been collected by the Federal Bailiff Service.
