Kosovo’s Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, says authorities are in the final phase of analysis to determine what units of the Kosovo Security Force will be deployed to Gaza as part of a stabilization mission.

In an interview with KosovoPress, Maqedonci explained that the deployment will include a combination of capacities, not only traditional military units but also specialized teams for demining and search-and-rescue operations. According to him, coordination is still underway with the American general leading the stabilization force to finalize the exact structure of the mission.

The minister emphasized that Kosovo’s participation in the stabilization force for Gaza is considered a strategic decision, even though the situation on the ground remains risky due to the ongoing conflict in the territory.

He also confirmed that after approval by the Government and the Assembly of Kosovo, several FSK units will first be sent to assess the security risks before a broader deployment takes place.

Maqedonci added that the engagement of Kosovo in this mission has come through cooperation with Prime Minister Albin Kurti and is linked to an international stabilization effort expected to operate based on a resolution of the United Nations Security Council.

At the same time, the minister addressed the fact that while Kosovo plans to contribute troops abroad, security within Kosovo continues to be maintained by the NATO-led mission KFOR, in line with the framework established under UN Resolution 1244. He noted that as the capacities of the Kosovo Security Force continue to develop, future dialogue with NATO could address the expansion of security responsibilities in Kosovo.
