President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, commemorated the victims of Likoshan and Qirez, who fell during the Serbian genocidal acts in February 1998.
According to Osmani, the killing of 24 residents was a brutal attempt to break the spirit of freedom growing in Drenica and across Kosovo.
“The blood of those fallen in Likoshan and Qirez became a call for resistance, dignity, and freedom. They became part of the foundation upon which our journey toward liberation and state-building was built.
The memory of the martyrs and heroes of Likoshan and Qirez is a pledge for justice and to safeguard freedom at all costs,” said the President.
Full Commemoration:
On February 28, 1998, the genocidal regime of Serbia carried out one of the most severe acts of state terror in Kosovo, brutally killing 24 residents of Likoshan and Qirez — including 20 civilians, who became martyrs, and 4 UÇK soldiers, who fell heroically defending the civilian population.
This was a brutal attempt to break the spirit of freedom that was growing in Drenica and throughout Kosovo.
The blood of the fallen in Likoshan and Qirez became a call for resistance, dignity, and freedom, forming part of the foundation upon which Kosovo’s liberation and statehood were built.
The memory of these martyrs and heroes is a pledge for justice and a commitment to protect freedom at all costs.
Eternal glory to the fallen of Likoshan and Qirez!
