Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has appointed an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) general, Seyyed Majid Ebnolreza, as the country’s Acting Minister of Defense. The decision comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent military developments.

According to an announcement shared on social media by Mohammad Mehdi Tabatabaei from the president’s communications office, Brigadier General Ebnolreza has been tasked with temporarily leading Iran’s defense ministry under a direct order from the president.

Before this appointment, Ebnolreza served as the principal deputy to former Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, who was killed in an Israeli strike on February 28. His temporary appointment is seen as part of Iran’s efforts to maintain continuity in its defense leadership following the attack.

The development reflects the rapidly evolving security situation in the region, as Iran adjusts its military leadership structure after the targeted strike that resulted in the death of the country’s defense chief.
