U.S. President Donald Trump has said that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer “took too long” to approve a U.S. request to use British military bases for “defensive” strikes against Iranian missiles.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Trump said the delay in approving the U.S. request “probably has never happened before between our countries,” according to the BBC.

Speaking about Starmer, he added: “It seemed like he was concerned about the legality.”

Asked about Trump’s comments, the British Prime Minister’s official spokesperson said that Iranian strikes against British interests led to a shift in position, describing the United Kingdom and the United States as “steadfast allies.”
