Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of Kosovo, spoke during the solemn session in the Assembly marking the 28th anniversary of the UÇK Epopeya, recalling the sacrifice of Adem Jashari’s family and the struggle for freedom.
Kurti emphasized that the events in Prekaz represent a historic moment for Kosovo and a symbol of resistance against oppression:
“In those days, when the will for freedom confronted the machinery of repression, history in Prekaz was written with fire and blood. The land became an altar of freedom, and one family became a national symbol. The figure of the legendary Commander Adem Jashari, inseparably linked with the fate of his family and comrades-in-arms, became the personification of the determination to never accept subjugation.”
He added that this sacrifice is embedded in Kosovo’s collective memory and consciousness as a permanent lesson:
“Freedom is earned at a high cost. It is a non-negotiable, inalienable right. In the historical course of long political and social struggles for rights, equality, and dignity, the turning point in Prekaz clearly articulated the people of Kosovo’s aspiration for liberation from occupying Serbia. The UÇK Epopeya became a call for mobilization, unity, and the clear expression of our aim for statehood and sovereignty.”
