Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stressed that any discussion about holding new elections should only take place after a decision by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, insisting that institutional processes must follow the Constitution and legal procedures.

Speaking at a press conference, Kurti said the opposition could still reflect on its recent demands, while the political process should continue through dialogue and possible adjustments.

“If necessary, there can calmly be reconsideration or even regret from opposition parties regarding their new demands, while other parties continue to be heard and make changes. It is necessary for all sides to participate so that the process can be carried out in full,” Kurti said.

Kurti also emphasized that during the latest parliamentary session it was clear which MPs were present and which chose to be absent, adding that no one was prevented from attending the session in the Assembly of Kosovo.

According to him, deputies have a constitutional obligation to attend plenary sessions and fulfill the mandate given to them by the citizens of Kosovo.

“It is the constitutional duty of MPs to perform the role for which they were elected by the people of Kosovo and to participate in plenary sessions of the Assembly of the Republic. In these important political moments, it is necessary to respect procedures and continue with the voting process for the presidential candidate. If no candidate receives the required votes in the first rounds, the procedure continues according to the established rules. After all voting rounds are held and if the third round also fails to elect a president, then the mechanisms provided by the Constitution are activated to continue the process,” Kurti said.
