U.S. President Donald Trump said that the decision on when the war with Iran will end will be a “mutual decision” taken together with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a report cited by The Times of Israel.

Trump said he had already spoken with Netanyahu and added that a decision would be made at the appropriate time.

Possibility of continued Israeli operations

When asked whether Israel could continue its military operations against Iran if the United States decided to stop its attacks, Trump declined to speculate.

“I don’t think that will be necessary,” he said.

Reaction to Iran’s new Supreme Leader

Trump also refused to comment on the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader.

“We’ll see what happens,” he said.

Trump had previously expressed opposition to Mojtaba taking the role, stating that “Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me.”

Leadership change in Iran

According to Iranian state media, Mojtaba Khamenei, a 56-year-old cleric, was chosen by the Assembly of Experts to become the new Supreme Leader of Iran.

He replaces his father, Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in U.S.–Israeli strikes on February 28.

Mojtaba Khamenei has never previously held a government position, but he has long been considered an influential figure within Iran’s political and religious establishment.
