After nearly 20 years, mandatory military service officially returns today in Croatia. The program will last two months, with recruits currently assigned to three barracks located in Knin, Slunj, and Požega.

The first group of young adults, aged 18 and above, includes 800 individuals who will undergo this compulsory military training.

During the training, recruits will receive a net salary of approximately €1,100 and will have two months of service officially recognized. After completing the training, they have the option to continue serving in the professional army.

Croatia had abolished mandatory military service in 2007, and the program now returns after nearly two decades. Up to 4,000 recruits are expected to be called into the Croatian Armed Forces each year.
