Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti met on Wednesday with Özkan Ulutaş, the commander of the KFOR mission, to discuss the security situation in Kosovo amid major global developments that could pose potential challenges to the country.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting focused on recent international changes and tensions that could impact regional security. Kurti emphasized the importance of continuous and effective communication between Kosovo’s institutions and KFOR.

“The meeting discussed the security situation at a time of major global developments and changes that may present challenges to security,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated.

Concerns Over Regional Reactions

The discussion comes shortly after some Serbian social media users called on Iran to target the U.S. base in Kosovo, following Iranian attacks on American bases across the Middle East.

In response, KFOR previously confirmed that the United States continues to play a key role in the NATO-led mission, with around 600 troops deployed in Kosovo.

Currently, Italy contributes the largest contingent with more than 900 soldiers, while the total number of KFOR troops stationed in Kosovo is about 5,000.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing coordination between Kosovo’s government and international security forces to address possible risks in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
