Emmanuel Macron, President of France, stated that leaders of the G7 have agreed to maintain sanctions against Russia, despite disruptions in global supply chains caused by the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Speaking at a press conference following an online meeting of G7 leaders, Macron emphasized that the current situation does not justify easing restrictions imposed on Russia.

We have formally stated within the G7 that this situation in no way justifies lifting sanctions against Russia. It must not weaken our support for Ukraine or our clear stance regarding sanctions,” Macron said.

Energy and Supply Concerns

Macron acknowledged that the suspension of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, following military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, has caused supply disruptions in oil products and fertilizers, potentially impacting global agriculture.

However, he noted that G7 countries are working to mitigate the negative effects of the conflict on global markets. According to Macron, the group is also seeking negotiations with several countries to prevent restrictive export measures, which could further disrupt international trade.

The French president added that some countries have already implemented policies that partially hinder global trade or send misleading signals, underscoring the need for coordinated international responses.
