The Mayor of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, honored the victims on March 13, marking the 27th anniversary of the Mitrovica market massacre.

In a Facebook post, Peci described the massacre as a criminal, terrorist, and genocidal act, planned and ordered by Slobodan Milosevic’s regime in Belgrade. He emphasized that the attack was designed to cause the maximum loss of life in a crowded area.

“The 27th anniversary of the Mitrovica market massacre. It was a market day, and the city market was full of life—buyers and sellers, children, women, men, the elderly, and young people—when the vitality of life was mercilessly extinguished by the grenade of death. Among the 7 killed were the youngest, 5-year-old Elizabeta Hasani, and the oldest, 65-year-old Rrahim Peci. 128 people were injured, many of whom still carry their wounds. Today, in honor of the victims, we pay tribute at the memorial plaque and share in the grief of those affected by this criminal attack,” Peci wrote.
