Radmila Shekerinska, Deputy Secretary General of NATO, met with Peter Sorensen, the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, at NATO headquarters. Shekerinska reaffirmed NATO’s strong commitment to the Western Balkans, a region of strategic importance to the Alliance.

She emphasized the partnership between NATO and the EU in maintaining peace and stability in Kosovo and the wider region. Referring to the KFOR mission, she stated, “NATO continues to do what is possible on the ground militarily to protect peace for the benefit of all people living in Kosovo. However, a sustainable regional stability solution is political. For this purpose, NATO fully supports the EU-led dialogue aimed at normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina and Sorensen’s efforts.”

Shekerinska highlighted the excellent level of cooperation between NATO and the EU and stressed that continuous coordination will be key to advancing the EU-led dialogue. Allies have agreed to increase support for the EU’s normalization efforts.

Peter Sorensen also participated in a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, which included NATO partners contributing personnel to KFOR. The KFOR mission continues to help maintain a safe and secure environment for all communities in Kosovo and freedom of movement, coordinating closely with the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) in their respective security roles.
