Four Dead After Scaffolding Collapse in Austria, One Suspected to Be from Kosovo

A serious workplace accident occurred Tuesday afternoon on Porzellangasse in the Alsergrund district of Austria, when parts of a construction scaffold collapsed, killing four people. Reports indicate that one of the victims may be from Kosovo.

According to the professional fire brigade, around 2:30 PM, during concrete work for the reconstruction of an attic in an old building near Bauernfeldplatz, sections of scaffolding and formwork collapsed into the building’s courtyard. The deaths were confirmed hours later.

Fire brigade spokesperson Martin Hofbauer explained that emergency services were alerted at around 2:30 PM. After approximately 90 minutes, ambulance crews reported one person severely injured. Hours later, it became clear that four people had died in the accident.

The entire scaffolding structure collapsed, trapping five people. Other construction workers assisted rescue teams in evacuating the severely injured man. The operation was extremely difficult, with some construction materials needing to be moved manually. The 45-year-old victim suffered serious head injuries, spinal trauma, and fractures to his arms, according to reports from wien.orf.
