Italy’s Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, has raised alarm in an interview with Corriere della Sera regarding the ongoing crisis involving Iran.

When asked what he fears, Crosetto responded:
“I fear that what is already dramatic could become even worse. Because I know humanity has shown us that there is no limit to madness. Think about it—human beings like us decided that to end a conflict, Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were acceptable. Unfortunately, we still have nuclear weapons, and those who don’t have them are seeking them. We have learned nothing.”

When journalist Fiorenza Sarzanini asked whether he was referring to a nuclear threat and if the risk is real, the minister replied:
“I don’t even want to say that word. The real danger is madness, and what we are experiencing is a conflict where every action is followed by a reaction of a higher level.”

Speaking about proposals by Donald Trump regarding Iran, Crosetto said that he “is the leader of a sovereign state, and no one from outside can influence him.”

A few days earlier, in an interview with La Repubblica, Crosetto said he is living the situation in Iran and its possible consequences “24 hours a day.”

“I am forced to know things that no longer let me sleep. About what may happen in the coming weeks, about the effects it will have on the economy and our daily lives,” he added.
