The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has welcomed Iran’s decision to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to all commercial vessels during the remainder of the ceasefire period.

“This is a step in the right direction,” Guterres stated, emphasizing that the United Nations maintains a clear position in favor of the full restoration of international freedom of navigation in this strategically vital waterway.

He also expressed hope that the decision, together with the ongoing ceasefire, would help build trust between the parties and strengthen diplomatic efforts currently being mediated by Pakistan.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for global energy supplies, and its reopening is seen as a key development for regional stability and international trade.
