Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that Kosovo’s application for membership in the European Union, submitted in December 2022, has remained unprocessed by the Council for 40 months.

Kurti described the delay as an issue requiring attention, arguing that Kosovo meets key standards such as functioning democracy, strong economic growth, and full alignment with EU foreign and security policy.

In response, he announced the establishment of an Executive Committee for EU integration, aimed at improving inter-institutional coordination and accelerating the integration process.

He also said the chief negotiator has been authorized to form specialized task forces, starting with one focused on securing candidate country status.

Kurti reiterated that EU membership is a strategic choice for Kosovo and called for the enlargement process to proceed alongside internal EU reforms, emphasizing that Kosovo is ready to contribute to the European project of peace and prosperity.
