Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a sharp personal warning to Hezbollah’s leadership, stating that Secretary-General Naim Qassem will pay with his life for continued aggression against Israel. Speaking with uncharacteristic bluntness, Katz emphasized that even during a period of ceasefire, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) remain prepared to act decisively.
The Defense Minister revealed that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have issued explicit orders to the IDF to maintain a high state of operational readiness. According to Katz, the military has been authorized to use force during the ceasefire to protect Israeli soldiers stationed in Lebanon from any emerging threats.
Katz reiterated that the primary mission of the Israeli government is the restoration of security for residents in the northern part of the country. He described this obligation as non-negotiable, asserting that the safety of the citizens must be guaranteed regardless of diplomatic status.
Expansion of Military Operations
Beyond the immediate border areas, Katz warned that Israel would target any threats originating from north of the Litani River. He signaled a potential expansion of the scope of military operations to ensure that Hezbollah cannot regroup or launch attacks from deeper within Lebanese territory.
Personal Warning to Naim Qassem
In a direct address to the current Hezbollah leader, Katz drew parallels between the fate of the group’s former leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and the current leadership. He claimed that while Nasrallah’s actions led to significant damage to the Shiite community in Lebanon, Qassem’s current path would lead to its total ruin.
The Defense Minister warned that Qassem would oversee the loss of homes and territory, comparing the potential outcome to the military operations conducted against Hamas in Gaza locations such as Rafah and Beit Hanoun. He concluded the statement by declaring that the escalation would continue until Qassem pays with his head.
