Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met with the United States Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, to discuss regional security developments in the Western Balkans and the strategic cooperation between Kosovo and the United States.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Kurti expressed gratitude for the “vital, continuous, and unwavering” support of the United States for Kosovo, stressing the importance of the close partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, Kurti raised concerns about security developments in the region, stating that Serbia, according to him, continues to pursue a hegemonic policy supported by Russia and China while further strengthening its military capabilities.
He also referred to reported arms purchases from Russia and China as factors increasing risks to regional stability, as well as the presence of military structures near Kosovo’s border.
Kurti emphasized that cooperation with the United States and NATO remains essential for security and stability in Kosovo and the region, describing their presence in Kosovo as crucial.
He further reiterated Kosovo’s aspiration for NATO membership, presenting it as a long-term guarantee of peace and security in the Western Balkans.
