Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, praised the contribution of American Congressman Eliot Engel, emphasizing his continuous role in supporting Kosovo and the rights of Albanians, reports Rks News.

Kurti said that Engel was a great friend and supporter of Albanians, who never hesitated to raise his voice in defense of human rights and to stand on the right side of history.

“Congressman Eliot Engel, a friend and great supporter of Albanians in general and of Kosovo in particular, never hesitated to raise his voice in defense of human rights and to position himself on the right side of history. Moreover, he advocated and engaged tirelessly so that rights would prevail. When he came to Pristina, on the occasion of the opening of the United States information office in June 1996, he described it as the first embassy of American citizens in Kosovo, expressing his conviction that one day there would be a Republic of Kosovo. He himself demonstrated this on the day he cut the ribbon of the new and modern building of the United States Embassy in free and independent Kosovo,” he said.

“He never spared his efforts, consistently advocating and defending our cause in the highest American institutions. For more than 3 decades in the United States Congress, Engel was a dedicated servant of American citizens and a strong representative of human and civil rights around the world, especially for us. Congressman Engel remained faithful to his commitment to our nation since he became closely acquainted with it. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kosovo, in this hall, in the Parliament of the state which Congressman Engel was convinced would be created, he said, and I quote: ‘I want to see Kosovo recognized by every state in the world, I want to see Kosovo become a member of the United Nations, I want to see Kosovo in NATO…’,” he said.
