Albanian Minister of Defence Ermal Nufi held a meeting with the United States Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, focusing on regional security and the strategic partnership between Albania and the United States.
In a public statement, Minister Nufi emphasized the importance of the long-standing relationship between Albania and the United States, describing it as a partnership built on shared democratic values and common strategic interests.
He reiterated Albania’s commitment to peace and stability in the region and beyond, stressing the need for closer cooperation among NATO allies in addressing evolving security challenges.
Nufi also expressed gratitude for the continued US support in strengthening Albania’s defence capabilities and expanding its role within NATO.
Following the meeting, the minister shared a video showing him and Ambassador Whitaker inspecting the Kuçova Air Base, a facility recently renovated with NATO funding. The inspection highlighted the base’s strategic importance for regional security and Albania’s growing role as a logistical hub within the alliance.
The visit comes shortly after Ambassador Whitaker’s earlier meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana, where discussions also focused on the strategic partnership between the two countries and preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit to be hosted in Tirana next year.
The summit is expected to further elevate Albania’s role within NATO and reinforce its contribution to regional and international security.
