Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla has reaffirmed the Republic of Kosovo’s unwavering commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration, describing the pursuit of EU and NATO membership as a “strategic necessity” for the nation’s future.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Sveçla emphasized that Kosovo’s alignment with Western alliances is not merely a political goal but a fundamental requirement for regional stability.
A Strategic Necessity for Stability
The Minister noted that the government is fully engaged in meeting the standards required for both the European Union and NATO. According to Sveçla, these memberships represent the most reliable safeguards for the country’s long-term interests.
“The Republic of Kosovo is determined, engaged, and committed to its path toward membership in the European Union and NATO,” Sveçla stated. “This is a necessity, but it also serves as the best guarantee for long-term stability and security in the region, as well as for sustainable development.”
Strengthening Regional Security
Sveçla’s remarks come at a time when security and defense cooperation have become top priorities for the administration. By positioning NATO membership as a security guarantee, the Minister highlighted Kosovo’s role as a proactive partner in maintaining peace in the Western Balkans.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to coordinate with international partners to harmonize Kosovo’s security frameworks with Euro-Atlantic standards, ensuring the country is prepared for the responsibilities that come with full integration into these organizations.
